There was a lot of information about sonic giving up on the 3d concept and instead using a 3d world but on a 2d plane, therefore becoming a more visually appealing version of the classic sonic 2d games. However this is not the case. The game is, again, 3D with a crappy combat system; there are points that the camera becomes fixed but they never seem to be completely at a 90 degree angle, thus leaving you trying to attack a fixed point at a 45 degree angle, which makes things very difficult.
Please, makers of Sonic games, do what the customers want and ditch the 3d worlds, as was advertised and make a 3d sonic but on a 2d plane as a platformer with no homing button, nor rails, nor constant running or just abandon 3d entirely and make a Sonic HD based on Sonic 1, or Sonic2 with online co-op. I can't seem to find much wrong with this game personally. The beginning scene was really weird though, when they explain the Werehog form by showing how it happened. It felt pretty unexplained and confusing.
Why would Dr. Eggman give Sonic an opportunity to earn more powers and a new form? The gameplay is awesome though. The Day levels consist of your expected modern Sonic play similar to that of Sonic Colors, so it's all pretty good there. The night levels are really cool to me, because it's trying something new. It's sort of a beat 'em up with some puzzles but the animations and controls are pretty satisfying, so taking out a horde of dark creatures is pretty fun to do.
In conclusion, The story line is somewhat confusing overall but the in game activity makes it worth your time. This game was great! Not the best in the series but still pretty good. Provides an interesting story good graphics smooth gameplay and likable characters! We only have IGN to thank for these bad reviews. Please ignore them this game is good. If you've been gaming for a while, than chances are you've heard of Sonic the Hedgehog.
You know, blue guy with spiky hair, runs real fast, got his start on the sega genesis. If you've been gaming recently you'll know that he hasn't been on top of the world lately. There are three parts to Unleashed: day levels, night levels, and towns. Day levels are what you'd expect from sonic, it's fast, there's loops all over the place, but mostly it's fun. Night levels are a big change of pace, gone are the loops, bummpers, and speed. What's here is a weird mix of "Crash Bandicoot" platforming, and "God of War" combat.
Sonic uses his new stretchy arms to swing on polls and beat up bad guys. It's not horrible, but once again we have something less about Sonic and more about something else. Last up are the towns, similar to what we saw in "Sonic Adventure" and Sonic You wander around asking towns people questions about where to go and how to get there. They look nice, but are an otherwise pointless edition.
The big thing that brought this game down are the sun and moon medals. You need a set amount before you enter a level. So you'll spend half the game replaying night levels to find these stupid things. You have to do night levels too, because day one only contain a couple. There's nothing worse than having to replay a level you don't like, in order to unlock a level you don't want. In conclusion, "Sonic Unleashed " takes two steps forward with some of the best speed levels in recent memory, and one step back with tacked on combat and item hunting.
Maybe one day we'll see a Sonic game that's all about speed, but for now you'll have to sit through the bad to get to the good. Is it really? It's been highly praised for it's music and Day Levels. The story follows Sonic trying to literally put the world back together from an ancient monster awakened by Eggman. The gameplay at first was a blast, and Chip was a good sidekick character.
But then came the Werehog levels. These were supposed to be brawler like levels. With puzzles mixed into the gameplay. Then the input of many, MANY quick time events. It was not good, and that's what put Sonic Unleashed in the "meh" category. But in a way it's still genuinely fun. It's given us some great levels that are considered the best Sonic Levels ever. The open world aspect is also a good touch. To me, this is a great comeback from Sonic ' It's music and certain levels are a blast to play, but gets drowned out easily by the more, unnecessary antics.
Sonic is back!!! Sonic Unleashed oh how I gasped with joy then held my breath and gasped with anticipation my mouth salivating at the prospect of a sonic that is truly good again, But as ever it was followed with a bitter after taste it promised so much yet delivered not so little but not enough.
Don't get me wrong the day stages are stunningly soaked with fantastic bright colors beautiful buildings and animations, visually the environments are bright and glorious the level design integrate and giving a true sense of a fresh but retro real looking familiar place echoing the flavor of its 2D counterparts, but most importantly Sonic is fast the feel of speed and acceleration is immense and tantalising and mouth watering and truly eye popping feast for the sensors, thus making me feel like I was 13 again on my Megadrive sitting down face and nose pressed against the screen as sonic span and looped-de-looped and whooshed across my television.
The sense of shock is there the sense of almost no control and skill needed to make it successfully though or just blind luck is there just like the 2D versions of sonic held beautifully, this time I feel I'm almost piloting a jet plane or a being carried with the intense speed of a runaway train, you really want to replay the levels to do it quicker and more perfect than the last to get more rings!
Kill more enemies! And wave goodbye to the level in the form of a Category ten hurricane of speed, and that's what sonic was all about! Is all about! It's that simple. So was I expecting Sega finally to ditch all these stupid new characters and gimmicks they hoped would help reinvent the franchise Cough Shadow, and finally having sonic run free without having to halt for a little chat with friendly folks.
It dose seem most of these problems have been addressed except sonic being a more social chap these days, you would think for someone who in such a rush getting to A to B that a chatting with some random folks would be out of the question? Afraid not! Yes the WareHog Bad move, if I wanted to play Sonic as a slow lumbering chap I buy him a Macdonalds everyday, slow fighting and simple thick headed game play that any simpleton could play on any third rate platformer, enemies pose no real threat and lets just say Were is the Speed?
That's what Sonic is about were has he gone were! He's under all that fluff screaming to get out. It's such a sad thing to see because during the day it is such a pleasure, but with this schizophrenic Jeckle and Hyde syndrome sonic is two games not one, one part a fantastic fast paced sonic romp more pleasurable than a large bowl of ice cream!
Making you feel slow and ill and clutching your stomach in agony. SEGA hear this Please!!! Unleashed has elements of this Overall best sonic so far captures the spark from its origins and proves sonic is not dead he just awakening from a coma, the game suffers from indecision not fully understanding what it wants to be slow or fast, keep it fast simple lets have Sonic Unleashed 2 bigger and better and when the sun goes down lets keep the WAREHOG out of it thanks you.
Sonic Unleashed is a good game. IGN must have been high when they dropped their review. I do like this game, but it has a few quirks. Firstly, I find the lack of a drop shadow on the werehog a little off putting. The homing attack is mapped to the boost. The frame rate drops are ugly.
Now, with that out of the way, I can agree that this is the greatest boost game of all time, save for possibly generations. The graphics are absolutely beautiful and I hope it gets ported to modern consoles. When the sun is shining, Sonic Unleashed is a blazing fast roller coaster ride filled with loop-de-loops, jump pads, speed boosts, zigzagging pathways, alternate routes and more. As the blue hedgehog spins through chaotic, unpredictable environments at sound-barrier-breaking speeds, you will be hooked.
These stages, which regularly shift from 2D to 3D perspectives, are executed so well, in fact, that I feel they not only successfully capture the frantic pace and addictive play mechanics of the long-gone classics, but surpass them. Unfortunately, Fantastic, yes, but unfortunately Sonic Unleashed has a darker side, literally, and I'm referring specifically to the well-publicized night-set levels in which the speedy hero transforms into a slow, stretchy werehog.
Yeah -- a werehog. If the concept sounds a little forced, it is, but not nearly as forced and altogether boring as the repetitive selection of nighttime stages. Being the first 3D boost game the daytime stages are not perfect but are just fun when you wanna have time playing as Sonic. This game might not be perfect but it's great for being a Sonic game and good for being a game.
Sonic Unleashed was, and still is, an overall great game! Let me give my reasonings why! The gameplay, although needing a little work here and there, is overall pretty great!
I played it last when I was about 10 maybe, and I only struggled here and there. Took tries to make a lightbulb, why would Sega get this right first try? Personally, I loved the werehog sections! Most of my frustrations with the game were with the parkour in the werehog stages. They were always my favorite because it was something new. Just like sonic, it made you slow down and think.
Finding sun and moon medals were always fun too! The story also was pretty great! Not the best in the world, it made me very confused. Why did sonic become a werehog? Was it both? I had loads of fun with it, and of course the story was one of the reasons I kept playing it. What happened next, how does this resolve?
The voice acting was great too! Love the 4kids era voice actors were the best, Jason Griffith was the best! That whole being not just child friendly, but child oriented, it was terrible to begin with. I loved Sonic Unleashed because he really felt like sonic in it. This version of sonic in Sonic Unleashed, he had his moments where I just smiled.
When he first called Chip Chip, the voice acting there was great and it just had this vibe. He made me smile, he did what he believed was right and what he thought he had to do. Gotta remember that one!
The leveling up system probably could have been done better, but it was awesome when I was little to feel powerful in the earlier levels when I was at endgame. All in all, old sonic good new sonic bad. Kid, 8 years old November 9, Teen, 17 years old Written by LordPrime25 August 27, Do you even know what game your playing?
Do you not know what Sonic is known for? Teen, 14 years old Written by ColdZero September 30, Good fun for gamers young and old. The game is split up into two real types of levels, there's the ones set in the day where you play as Normal Sonic, and the ones at night where you play as the Werehog Sonic. The Day stages are fast, and reward quick reactions with things like extra items or alternate paths. The Night ht stages are much slower, and are styled like a fighting 'beat-em-up' game, however there should be no age concerns as there is no bloody or inappropriate imagery.
The final boss, Dark Gaia, could potentially be disturbing for younger children, however I'd say ages 7 and up will definitely get a kick out of it. This title contains: Ease of Play. The Werehog is good, but I personally don't like it. Every stage will take 20 to 30 minutes at least, and if you stink the stages, you'll keep dying and dying, and then you'll take an hour to complete the stage. December 2, Sonic Unleashed is a breath of fresh air after the Adventure games! Sonic Unleashed opens up with a neat CGI cutscene, and then immediately throws you into it's beautiful opening level, Windmille Isle.
Sonic Unleashed is an adventure to remember. This game honestly craps on the game that came out before, Sonic 06 and while many do criticize the werehogs combat, I think it works and there are many combos that you can kill enemies with. And the day time stages just blow your mind away with the speed that sonic goes. Despite the pretty graphics, great music and creativity that Sonic Unleashed has, the daytime stages rely too much on boosting and lack platforming and the night time werehog stages are simply repetitive and boring resulting in a game that is both mediocre and forgettable.
This is my favorite 3D Sonic games. Honestly better than SA2. Yes I just said that. But there were barely any times that I had to rage quit Sonic Unleashed. I have turned off and almost thrown the controller in a fit of rage several times during adventure 2 and not because of Sonic and Shadow. The boost mechanic was an amazing addition to Sonic's 3D gameplay.
The sense of speed in this This is my favorite 3D Sonic games. The sense of speed in this game is absolutely stunning and I have an absolute blast during the daytime stages. The werehog is not a terrible thing. Honestly I actually enjoy some of the werehog stages.
Except for chun nan at night. Those wizards and pole sections can shove a telephone pole up their butts. But the combat is truly enjoyable with more combos to unlock and many different methods of defeating enemies and there is something extremely satisfying about picking up an enemy and using said enemy to smack another enemy with and kill them that way.
Also its funny when sonic slams them on the ground repeatedly. One major critique that I need to address is the need to hunt for sun and moon medals in order to progress throughout the story.
In the nighttime stages this is no problem. During the day, however, Sonic is blazing past these things at extremely high speeds. But other than these problems This game is a truly underrated Sonic game that deserves more good rep than bad. Any of the bad reviews are essentially people who just don't like the werehog stages and can't look past that at the rest of the game.
When i first played this game i was scare for the reviews and specially for the werehog, but at the end of my playtrough, i really enjoyed the game and the werehog wasn't that bad, actually it was very fun in my opinion. I think what fails in this game is that it becomes very repetitive at the end. Sorry but this game is more frustrating than it should've been. I love the graphics and it can be fun but it's more of an endurance test with sloppy controls and poor werehog sections.
It's also filled with boring hubworlds. The daytime sections can be fun but they have problems and there's too much fluff.
This is the only 3D Sonic I've played and it's okay. I wish there weren't any werehog stuff and the levels are too simplistically designed compared to the Genesis games. Still this game has high production values and is memorable. Although Sonic Adventure 2 is my favorite Sonic game, I can't deny the quality of this one, it really deserves the title of "Best Sonic game".
This game is seriously underated. Sonic Unleashed may not be a masterpiece but it's damn good. The music and graphics of the game is top-notch, everything feels like a Pixar movie with cartoonish proportions for people. The story isn't bad as well by any means, it's a step up from the edgy and weird like it's predecessors and it's quite light hearted not taking things too seriously.
I This game is seriously underated. I won't spoil any gameplay or story so you can experience them yourself. Daytime is a lot of fun, high speed thrills and the nighttime levels, while tedious, is fun with his combat skills.
The hub worlds or colourful and have interactable people and this is easily one of the best in the series, as it is small and they are beautiful. The battle music is way too repetitive though. But the medal collecting is one bad factor along with some of the werehog levels being a bit too long and doesn't seem to have a drop shadow.
Eggmanland can go to hell. Sonic Unleashed on the Xbox is a great game. And boy, did they deliver. Sonic Unleashed is a gorgeous game. It looks spectacular, with magnificent scenery, character designs, lighting, shading, animations, all that. The sound is clear and crisp. It looks like a game that would be made Sonic Unleashed on the Xbox is a great game. It looks like a game that would be made for PS4 and Switch. This is still the best-looking Sonic game, even after almost 10 years.
The level design in this game is great. In both Sonic and Werehog levels, every level is well-designed and fun. Everything is placed in an absolute perfect spot. Sonic's gameplay is based on boosting, and the Werehog's gameplay is based on combat and puzzle solving; despite this, both characters have a good amount of platforming to do. All levels are well-designed and are really fun to speedrun.
I must have played Windmill Isle Act 2 at least times and I'm still not sick of it. Sonic's standard controls are really good. I think it was actually a good idea to make X the homing attack instead of A, but I know why they changed it back. The Werehog also has great control. Making the trigger the run button was pretty smart because then I can run at any time and still press nearly any button I need.
I'm not sure why the Werehog can't go faster up poles when the triggers are held, but eh. Both forms of Sonic have a wide range of abilities. Sonic can jump, boost, homing attack, slide, or breakdance. I'm not kidding. Stop in place and double-tap B. The Werehog can jump, double jump, climb or shimmy along walls, punch, kick, block, run, unleash, and more. All of these abilities, along with upgrades, which I will mention later, make the game fun and refreshing.
Aside from the abilities the character had at the beginning, there are 2 types of upgrades for both Hedgehog and Werehog. The first is new abilities. Sonic the Hedgehog can gain new abilities by finding various pairs of shoes in hub worlds. These shoes can allow Sonic to stomp, wall-jump, or do the light-speed dash.
Stomp is performed by pressing B in the air; Wall jumping is done by repeatedly pressing A while on a wall. The light-speed dash is done by pressing Y in front of a trail of rings.
All of these are great additions and work exceptionally well. The Werehog can gain new abilities by upgrading his combat abilities at the end of a level. There are tons of them to learn and unlock. The second type of upgrade is an upgrade to pre-existing abilities. At the end of each level, Sonic can take the EXP he's gained and apply it to either his normal or werehog self.
Sonic has 2 abilities to upgrade and the Werehog has 6, I think. You can upgrade one ability a ton and leave the other behind, or you can upgrade them all equally. It's up to you.
They all add to the game to make it faster and more fun. It's also easier to get S-ranks when your characters are fully upgraded. You can tell this game is incredibly polished. All of the abilities, all of the levels, all of the characters, all of the enemies, all of the animations, all of the features, all of the items, everything.
They all show a very high level of polish. I've played this game for 15 hours or more and I've never encountered a bug. If a game can implement all of these features in a smart, simple way with no issues, you can tell Sonic Team really cared about this game.
And that's why this game gets a Oh, and Eggman has a Dreamcast. Gotta love the Dreamcast. This is, possibly, one of my favourite sonic games. The daytime stages were fun and exhilarating and the nighttime stages were fine, they didn't bother me that much and I liked them.
The exploration aspect and the rather fun brawler type of gameplay was enjoyable. They were quite challenging but were much easier once you level up your strength and combat. The RPG elements also added a This is, possibly, one of my favourite sonic games. The RPG elements also added a sense of progress in the game. This game also has a wonderful plot, possibly the best graphics, and, in my opinion, the fastest sonic. The music is also one of the best in the sonic franchise.
The critic reviews were, in my opinion, quite biased about the game - while I accept the fact that the reviewers didn't like Werehog sections, the graphics, music sound , and the presentation story were all excellent and definitely deserve a good rating. I would definitely recommend this game to anyone for a true taste of the sonic franchise. Underrated gem Sonic unleashed is well executed in almost every single aspect. Underrated Sonic Game of All time.
It doesn't deserve terrible reviews just because it isn't what they wanted. Onto the review, The graphics are the best in the series, but bad framerates in the most beautiful levels. Modern Sonic is on point, with speed and level design. And the werehog, even if it wasn't needed was executed well. Other than that the game is amazing. Un muy buen juego. Eggman, deberas derrotar en esta aventura. Un buen juego mas que recommdable si te gusta Sonic.
This review contains spoilers , click expand to view. This game is a masterpiece. The story is engaging and the gameplay is fun and innovative. Definitely try this one out. I love this game not the best but at the time it was redeemable than the terrible 06 kind of game. This game change story that's actually more inspiring than any other modern sonic games where this one introduces two ways to play sonic daytime where you go fast with the new boosting power with great level design and nighttime with the combat with more of a exploration this feature is not I love this game not the best but at the time it was redeemable than the terrible 06 kind of game.
This game change story that's actually more inspiring than any other modern sonic games where this one introduces two ways to play sonic daytime where you go fast with the new boosting power with great level design and nighttime with the combat with more of a exploration this feature is not too bad actually it's just a way of changing the pacing of how you play the game which is fine not that big of an issue the music great actually cause instead they use orchestra with one of the best music in a sonic game even though the game is difficult at times, frame rate can be a bit of a problem, the voice acting is cheap due to 4kids at the time, collecting sun and moon medals to unlock stages can be a hassle but fair, and the controls can be weird at first but once you adjusted on how it handles you'll be fine.
So far the visuals in this game is great I really wish sonic games have CGI stuff like this and how it has high replay-ability value even if concept like the were-hog is out of place if you give this game a chance you'll find a lot to love about Sonic Unleashed. My favorite sonic game in the whole series it was very good I liked daytime and nighttime stages.
It is very underrated! The most underrated, and the best game in the franchise. But if you don't think so, you've to agree that this game has the highest budget in the franchise. The werehog isn't that bad as people usually say, you just have to upgrade his combat skills. The best game ever!
Go away, if you don't like it! I am one of those people who love to run around the location, look for any useful or even useless stuff. Who puts less than 75 points, those fat sows! But it really pisses me off when people underestimate such a masterpiece. You do not like Werehog? You do not like to collect medals? Well, the only thing is that in The best game ever! Difficult, is not it?
This game is by far one of the best Sonic the Hedgehog games out there. Is has unique gameplay, a creative storyline, and fun characters all around the game itself!
However, it can get a lot,e difficult having to go back and get the required amount of levels to proceed onto the next stage. A very polarizing game amongst fans.
Some say it's one of the good Sonic games, others say it's one of the worst. I'd say it's just like the whole theme of the game. Day and night, light and darkness, Sonic and Werehog Sonic. Each have their good parts and bad parts. This game is split into two gameplay segments, daytime Sonic and nighttime Sonic. Daytime is the Sonic Unleashed. Daytime is the considerably better half. Extremely fast boost gameplay, it's in my opinion the fastest we have ever seen Sonic to date.
It's super fun and exciting to blaze through stages with exhilarating speed. The game also introduces a leveling system which allows you to level up daytime Sonic's speed meter and ring meter. Allowing you to go faster and hold more rings repsectively. That's about it for daytime Sonic when it comes to leveling.
Now for nighttime Sonic. Leveling up Werehog Sonic let's you level several different stats. From combos, health, shields, and unleashed. Combos gives you more attacks. Health let's you take more hits before you die. Unlike daytime Sonic where it's ring based. Shields let you block more attacks and for longer without it breaking. And Unleashed let's you stay in Unleashed form longer. Which the form itself let's you deal more damage and move faster for a short time. During the actual gameplay segments the game slows down drastically, both in gameplay and preformance at times.
You control Werehog Sonic which the game turns into an action game. You then spend the next minutes mashing X or Y until you get to the end of the stage. You also solve light puzzles and platforming.
Which I don't like. Controlling Sonic while platforming in these stages makes me super nervous since grabbing onto ledges is a bit finicky and your jump isn't the best either.
I don't hate these stages as much as others but I feel like they were added for a few reasons. One is because I feel like Sega looked at what was popular at the time and saw that God of War and Devil May Cry were doing well so they decided to mimic that.
And my other reason is because they needed a new mechanic to pad out the game and the Werehog fit that role perfectly. There are also a few other things that pad out the lenght of the game. Such as needing Sun Medals and 80 Moon Medals to beat the game. Eggman Land being an hour long and so on. The most likely reason for all these things was more than likely the short development time this game had. Coming out two years after Sonic The Hedgehog this game was more than likely quickly made to try and get Sega back on their feet after the disaster of But looking at it from that perspective.
It's quite impressive what Sega did in about two years of development time.
